Rocket League is a sports + racing arcade game where you play soccer using rocket-powered cars. Sounds silly at first, but after one match you’ll get it: the physics feel clean, the pace is wild, and every goal feels earned. It launched in 2015 (Psyonix) and still pulls players in because the basics are simple, but the skill ceiling is ridiculous.
You’re dropped into an arena with one ball and two goals. Your team scores by smashing the ball into the opponent’s net before time runs out. The car moves fast, and you can jump, flip, boost, and even fly if you control your angle right.
The trick isn’t just “hit ball = win.” You need to read bounces, keep your speed under control, and know when to attack or back off.

A kickoff isn’t about smashing the ball as hard as possible. A controlled touch that sends the ball to your teammate is often better than a messy 50/50 that bounces straight into your half.
The biggest beginner mistake is everyone chasing the ball nonstop. Rotate back after your play. If you’re last man, don’t dive. Staying alive on defense wins more games than random hero shots.
Use boost like money—spend it only when it matters. Keep ball cam on most of the time, but turn it off when you need close control. If you miss a shot, don’t rage-flip into nowhere… just recover and rotate back. Also, hitting the ball “soft” on purpose is a real skill. Not every touch needs to be a boom.
