Hexbound is a retro FPS with a supernatural twist. You carry guns and magic while moving through ruined buildings, underground areas, and other places that are clearly not meant to be safe. Most rooms are quiet for only a few seconds. Once enemies show up, the shooting starts quickly.
Not every useful item sits on the main route. Small side rooms and dead ends can hide ammunition, health, or other supplies. It is worth checking them when you have enough breathing room. Some areas also use locked doors or alternate routes, so reaching the next room is not always as simple as walking straight ahead.
Hexbound gives you both firearms and magical attacks. A gun is often the easiest choice when you need to deal with one enemy quickly. Spells are handy when the fight gets crowded or when you want another option besides spending ammunition.
You will probably find yourself changing weapons often. Keeping the same weapon equipped for every encounter is not always the best choice, especially when enemies attack from different distances.
The safest place in a fight is usually somewhere with room to move. Enemies can close the distance quickly, and getting trapped against a wall makes dodging much harder. Move sideways when projectiles come toward you, back away when several enemies rush together, and keep checking behind you when entering a large room. A few seconds spent repositioning can save a lot of health.
As you advance, you can improve your character and make your weapons or abilities more useful. The upgrades give you some freedom in how you approach combat rather than forcing every player into the same setup. Exploration also matters here. Finding extra resources early can make the next difficult encounter much less painful.
Hexbound is at its best when you keep moving, switch between guns and magic, and take the time to search rooms instead of rushing straight toward the exit.
